Panama received on April 16 the first batch of the AstraZeneca covid-19 vaccine, through the Covax mechanism, with 36 thousand doses.
The
vaccine against
covid-19 from the pharmaceutical company
AstraZeneca will not be applied in schools authorized for the circuit vaccination day, said Dr. Eduardo Ortega, advisor to the
vaccine consortium.
Ortega reiterated that this
vaccine against
covid-19 will be applied voluntarily at fixed vaccination points such as fast moving cars, and recalled that the recommendation for the application of this formula in the country is in men over 30 years old and women over 50 years old.
In the circuits, the vaccination strategy will continue with the
vaccine against
covid-19 developed by the pharmaceutical company
Pfizer.
“We are going to vaccinate differently, we are not going to vaccinate in schools, we are going to vaccinate in fast moving cars. We want people to go by appointment, to grant the appointment a different database is being created so that these people are handled separately," said Ortega.
He recalled that
AstraZeneca's
covid-19
vaccine is almost 100% effective against serious illness and hospitalization.
The
AstraZeneca vaccine has been questioned for its association with side effects such as clots, however, Dr. Ortega said that the number of events is 4 per million, mostly in women under 50 years of age.
"Reason why to minimize any possible risk we have decided to vaccinate these age groups, this is in line with what European countries are doing, not with the World Health Organization and the European Medicines Agency that recommend use for 18 years, but to be cautious we have recommended limiting it to those age groups," said Ortega.
He pointed out that in the case of people with chronic diseases, he does not recommend the application of this
vaccine if the condition is related to coagulation.
