Account Prosecutor asks the Comptroller's Office to audit the CSS after complaint of mismanagement of public funds
The Public Prosecutor's Office of Panama requested the Comptroller General of the Republic to conduct an audit of the Social Security Fund (CSS), given the alleged mismanagement of public funds in this entity.
This after a complaint filed on December 3 before the Public Ministry by the National Alternative Movement in Defense of Finances of the Social Security Fund (Manofirme), in which a possible crime against the public administration is indicated in the form of embezzlement, for over $28 million, as payment to an official.
The request is based on number 3 of article 26 of Law 67 of 2008, which establishes that it will be the responsibility of the Accounts Prosecutor to request the corresponding examination to determine the correction or incorrectness of operations in the management of funds or public goods, as well as the complementation that based the objections, to the Comptroller.
For his part, the Comptroller Gerardo Solís received the request on December 21, and on January 11 he responded to the Accounts Prosecutor, Waleska Hormchea, that “once the previously scheduled audits have been completed and are in progress, and as soon as resources are available, the requested audit will be carried out”.
