The Social Security Fund of Panama ( CSS ) inaugurated this morning the field hospital in an area adjacent to the Dr. Santiago Barraza de La Chorrera Polyclinic to expand the hospital capacity of the province of West Panama in the fight against COVID-19.
Present at this inauguration were the Captain of the Navy and the Chief Defense Officer in Panama, Matthew Turner; and Colonel Steven Winkleman, Director of the Office of Defense Cooperation, of the Embassy of the United States, who accompanied the director of the CSS, Enrique Lau, in the tour of this field hospital that the Southern Command donated.
Lau announced that this hospital will have 40 beds, and they will be destined for those people with
COVID-19 who, due to their condition, require hospitalization.
The director said that an increase in cases is expected in Panama West and that is why this hospital has been installed, but he stressed to the population to do their part and take care of themselves.
Lau also reported that at the Dr. Rafael Hernández L. de David Regional Hospital, 100 more beds will be available; while at the Dr. Dionisio Arrocha Hospital in Puerto Armuelles, the capacity will be increased with 40 more beds and an additional field hospital will be installed donated by the Southern Command in the province of Veraguas.
